This recording finds Loussier 's trio (which also includes bassist Benoit Dunoyer de Segonzac and drummer André Arpino) interpreting the six Brandenburg concertos that Johann Sebastian Bach (b. , d. ) composed between and , and interpret is definitely the operative word.8/

  5. Tojinn says:
Loussier and his trio have produced recordings of Bach that are absolutely mandatory. He has a gift for producing something between free improvisation and the original work that must be experienced. Yet in this recording his gift for going right to the heart and theme of the music takes away much of the power of the original Brandenburg concertos/5(28).
  6. Vudozragore says:
Loussier has always felt that it made the best fit for his jazz trio. Piano, bass and drums negotiate the allegro passages of each concerto with ease and express ideas naturally with the slower portions. The piano's clarity remains the album's focus, as Loussier drives note for note what Bach laid down.
  7. Vigami says:
Loussier is quite tasteful, and he makes Bach's compositions sound perfectly natural in a jazz setting. Bach: The Brandenburgs is not recommended to classical purists; this is an album for jazz piano enthusiasts who also happen to appreciate Bach's legacy, and those who fit that description will find Bach: The Brandenburgs to be one of Loussier.

  9. Vojar says:
In this recording, Loussier and his trio take on Bach's revered Brandenburg Concertos, deftly merging the master's keen, almost mathematical compositional style with the more freewheeling improvisational sensibility that has been at the foundation of jazz since the music's earliest years/5(28).
